 Earth Day

Geauga County: Tobacco waste poses a significant threat to our environment. Cigarette butts and e-cigarette cartridges or pods containing harmful chemicals are frequently disposed of incorrectly, leading to significant environmental harm. Shockingly, an estimated 766,571 metric tons of cigarette butts find their way into our environment daily and according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, e-cigarettes are discarded at an alarming rate of 5 per second in the United States alone, amounting to 150 million devices per year (www.truthinitiative.org).
To combat this environment threat, Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers and University Hospitals Geauga proudly announces our partnership to organize a community park clean up event on April 21. This event not only aims to address the immediate environmental concerns, but also serves as a celebration of Earth Day.“We are thrilled to join forces with University Hospitals Geauga to combat the growing issue of tobacco waste in our community”, said Melanie J. Blasko, President and CEO of Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers. “At Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers we understand the challenges of addiction and are here to offer our tobacco cessation services to those seeking to break free from tobacco dependency.”
