Lake-Geauga Offering Substance Use Education Sessions

Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers is pleased to offer free Community Education Sessions for anyone wanting information about the effects of alcohol and other drugs such as marijuana and pain medications. Sessions are offered every Monday from 1:00PM-2:30PM and Wednesdays from 6:30PM-8:00PM at Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers, 9083 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, OH 44060.

According to Melanie Blasko, Lake-Geauga President and CEO, “There is so much misunderstanding about alcohol and drugs today: are some drugs ‘safer’ than others, how much is too much, and how does someone know if he/she has a problem? We hope these sessions will clear up some of the confusion and give people a chance to make informed choices.”

The sessions are open to people looking for education and support regarding their own, or a loved one’s use of drugs and/or alcohol. Anyone may attend the walk-in, open ended sessions as often as they like, at no charge. Expert counselors provide basic information about the results of substance use/abuse, including physical, emotional, and psychological effects.

In anonymous group sessions, people can freely talk about feelings of uncertainty about changing the way they live. They will look at the different parts of their lives – home, family, drinking, fun, smoking, jobs – and work out what is most important. A printed guide and some educational experiences will help individuals make their own decisions about whether or not they want to change. Some may decide to participate in a treatment or recovery program. No one is “forced” to decide or think in any particular way. It is very much an individual decision. Educational topics also focus on family members, available options, and community resources.
