Job Summary
The Child Care Worker is responsible for providing safe, nurturing, and structured care to the children of residential clients. This role involves supervising daily activities, assisting with basic needs such as feeding, dressing, and hygiene, and creating a positive environment through planned activities that support the children’s well-being and development. The Child Care Worker also maintains daily logs, ensures cleanliness in activity areas, and responds to any emergencies, all while upholding professional and ethical standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Delivers attentive and compassionate childcare to children of Lake Geauga Recover Centers’ residential clients, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
- Serves as a positive role model, fostering structure, stability, and care in daily interactions with the children.
- Oversees children’s activities, ensuring they receive proper care, rest, and supervision throughout the day.
- Helps with dressing, changing diapers, feedings, and bathing children as requested by parents, maintaining hygiene and comfort.
- Immediately report any emergencies or unusual situations to on-duty staff for prompt action.
- Creates and follows a structured schedule of activities using various methods (stories, games, media, drawing, outdoor play) to promote children’s development and well-being.
- Keeps detailed daily records of observations, documenting each child’s activities and general condition.
- Sanitizes, organizes, and stores toys and materials after use to ensure cleanliness and order in shared spaces.
- Attends agency and residential staff meetings as required to stay informed and collaborate with the team.
- Accurately fills out and submits all required reports and documentation on a daily basis.
- Upholds professional ethics and client confidentiality, including knowledge of client rights and grievance procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding children in care.
- Assists with any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support overall childcare services.
- Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous child care experience and knowledge or child development required.
- Patience, flexibility and creativity a must.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employers, vendors, and colleagues on a daily basis.
- Certified in First Aid and CPR (training available).
- Minimum of 2 years in a personal recovery program, if applicable, with a commitment to maintaining recovery.
Working conditions
- In this role you may work with or be exposed to individuals experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. The environment may involve interacting with clients who exhibit a range of behaviors associated with their conditions, including emotional distress, unpredictability, and challenges in communication.
- Primarily working indoors but may also engage in outdoor activities with children, exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Requires patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to handle stressful situations, such as managing children’s behavioral challenges.
- May involve irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, based on the needs of the children and parents.
- Frequently works in a moderately noisy environment due to children’s activities and interactions.
Background Check and Alcohol and Drug Screen required.
