Grant from Women’s Leadership Council

Grant from Women’s Leadership Council of UWLC Purchases Exercise Equipment to Help Recovery from Addiction

Mentor, OH October. 28, 2015:

Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers gratefully acknowledges the awarding of a grant from the Women’s Leadership Council of the United Way of Lake County to purchase exercise equipment for its two women’s residential treatment facilities.  The grant helps to support the Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers’ Women’s Exercise Project which is part of an overarching effort to help clients navigate their way to recovery and embrace a healthy lifestyle that will benefit them throughout their lives. This provides clients with another tool they can use towards a successful recovery from addiction.

There is substantial research to support the theory that exercising is highly beneficial during addiction recovery.  Some benefits noted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration include improved self-esteem, weight loss, enhanced ability to sleep with more restful sleep, decreased irritability and anxiety, and many other benefits.  Exercise also reduces physical and psychological stress and helps to improve energy levels.

“We are extremely grateful to the Women’s Leadership Council of the United Way of Lake County for their support of our women’s exercise program,” said Melanie Blasko, President and CEO.  “By helping our clients in their efforts to achieve overall wellness by adding exercise to their routines we are helping them embark on a lifetime of healthy living.”  All programs at Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers are made possible through the support of the Lake County ADAMHS Board, the Geauga Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services and United Way of Lake & Geauga Counties.

Since 1971 Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers, a private, nonprofit agency, has earned a solid reputation for its wide range of services for adults whose lives have been affected by their own or another’s use of alcohol or other drugs, by problem gambling, or by mental illness. Lake-Geauga Recovery Center’s goal for treatment services is to help consumers achieve long-term recovery and an improved quality of life.
